How we work with RECITAL artists

RECITAL artists receive 3-5 minute performance slots in our show in one of two ways — through a commission from our Producing team, or by applying to our Call For Proposals and having their proposal selected.

Once selected, RECITAL producers and performing artists sign a contract that includes mandatory administrative and marketing requirements and deadlines, as well as key rehearsal and performance dates. This contract includes the artists’ performance stipend — $400/act for 2026 — and details about how we profit share with artists once we surpass our budget break-even point at the box office for related performance weekend(s).

Since we founded the show in 2022, we have collaborated with local businesses to reduce financial barriers often associated with creating new performance work. We have a proud partnership with Barriskill Dance Theatre School, which provides rehearsal space to RECITAL artists at a discounted rate and also provides free costume and prop rental to RECITAL artists.

● Performing in RECITAL

  • We look at all of our proposals at once and assess for A) Thematic fit — does your pitch fit our overall theme of joy/nostalgia/fun, B) Have you performed in RECITAL before? We try to strike a balance between new and “old” faces so we can spread the love from year to year, C) What discipline(s) does the act incorporate? We want to showcase a wide variety of disciplines and styles of dance, so we aim to build a program that is not too much of any one thing!

  • Sadly, no. We have been overwhelmed by the interest and enthusiasm for our show, but we have limited spots and a limited budget for our production and unfortunately cannot accept all proposed acts into our lineup.

  • We will do our best to loop all interested folks into some kind of opportunity, but until we know the show lineup and who might be looking to work with additional performers, we can’t make any promises!

  • YES! If you have more than one idea, we encourage you to submit both as separate proposals. It helps us to have more things to choose from as we build our show line-up. It is highly unlikely that we will choose more than one proposal by the same person, but if you have two viable ideas, submitting two unique proposals does increase your chances of being selected to perform.

  • The Call For Proposals for our 2026 shows will open in late July or early August. The call will be open for two weeks.

  • We will notify all selected artists via email approximately 1-2 weeks after our Call For Proposals closes.
